Role overview

We’re looking for a Technical Artist with a strong background in tools and pipeline development to join our fully remote team. Your primary focus will be creating robust, user-friendly tools and systems in Unreal Engine 4/5 to streamline workflows for our artists and designers working on large-scale simulation projects.

This is a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on how simulation content is created—from modular world-building to vehicle and environment pipelines.

Job type: Initial 6-month contract depending on experience/availability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain tools in Unreal Engine 4 and 5 using Blueprints, Python, and Editor scripting.
  • Monitor and help optimise in-game performance across projects.
  • Build automation and procedural systems to support environment creation, vehicle setup, and simulation logic.
  • Improve the efficiency of asset workflows across scenery, track systems, terrain, and vehicles.
  • Integrate and support DCC tool pipelines (e.g., 3ds Max, Blender) with Unreal via custom scripts and plugins.
  • Optimise content pipelines for performance, scalability, and ease of use across teams.
  • Work closely with artists, designers, and engineers to understand pain points and propose scalable, production-ready solutions.
  • Document tools, support onboarding, and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in regular team syncs and in-person meet-ups for planning, feedback, and team building.

What we are looking for

Must have:

  • Evidence of professional industry work within this role
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 and 5, especially in Editor scripting, Blueprints, and Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to create custom tools and automation systems to support game development workflows.
  • Knowledge of modular content workflows, especially for large-scale simulation or world-building projects.
  • Understanding of shader and material systems, as well as performance optimisation in UE.
  • Comfortable collaborating remotely with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a remote work environment.

Nice to have:

  • Houdini tool creation and integration for UE pipeline
  • Experience with simulation or transport-related games.
  • Familiarity with World Partition, Niagara, and Control Rig.
  • Experience with Perforce or other version control systems.
  • Scripting knowledge in DCC packages (e.g., MaxScript, Blender Python).

Rivet Games benefits

  • Fully remote other than compulsory company get-togethers every 6 weeks in central Scotland
  • 26 days discretionary leave, plus 8 company assigned days
  • 37.5 hour week with main core hours from 10:00am - 4:00pm
  • Monthly subsidised social activities
  • Employee referral bonus
  • Maternity, paternity, shared parental, adoption and dependent leave available
  • Game jams on company time
  • Work as a key part of a small team on projects with a typical length of 3-6 months
  • Credited for your contributions

We are committed to promoting equal opportunities and diversity, and all applicants will be considered on their merit, qualifications, competence and talent regardless of any protected characteristics.
