Brand new in every right, enter the ScotRail BR Class 385! Built between 2015 and 2019, this fleet of “eXpress” multiple units were designed to overhaul and expand ScotRail’s electric fleet. Following an innovative modernisation of Scotland’s Central Belt, which saw electrification come to many key lines, the Class 385 entered service in 2018, and since has allowed for fully electric services on the mainline and brought new traction to existing lines.

Adorned in “eXpress” branding, these 100mph capable units make light work of the Edinburgh – Glasgow via Falkirk High route. Platform extensions allow for 8-car trains to carry up to 456 passengers, 45% more than the previous 6-car diesel fleet. There are both 3 and 4-car variants of the Class 385 for different uses across the network, with a total of 70 now in daily service.

Ride and Drive commuter trains between Scotland’s two principal cities, complete route tasks, or simply go trainspotting from your favourite vantage point. Customise your own experiences with the Scenario Planner and Livery Designer and share them on Creators Club.

Explore the complexities of Glasgow commuting with Rivet Partners’ Suburban Glasgow Northwest route! Formed in 1960 as an amalgamation of various Victorian-era railways in the Glasgow area, the current North Clyde Line runs from Edinburgh Waverley to Helensburgh Central, with branches to Springburn, Balloch and Milngavie. Originally home to the venerable Class 303, or “blue trains”, the current iteration of the route showcases a wide variety of stock, including many specials – often steam hauled – heading for the West Highland Line.

West of Glasgow, the line splits just west of Partick, with one route taking a northerly course through the Glasgow suburbs of Anniesland and Knightswood, before merging with the southerly line in the Clydebank district of Dalmuir. The southerly course passes through the traditional industrial heartland of the Clyde Valley. After Clydebank the route becomes distinctly rural, before ending in the foothills of the Highlands at Helensburgh.
