Formed in 1960 as an amalgamation of various Victorian-era railways in the Glasgow area, the current North Clyde Line runs from Edinburgh Waverley to Helensburgh Central, with branches to Springburn, Balloch and Milngavie. Originally home to the venerable Class 303, or “blue trains”, the current iteration of the route showcases a wide variety of stock, including many specials – often steam hauled – heading for the West Highland Line.

West of Glasgow, the line splits just west of Partick, with one route taking a northerly course through the Glasgow suburbs of Anniesland and Knightswood, before merging with the southerly line in the Clydebank district of Dalmuir. The southerly course passes through the traditional industrial heartland of the Clyde Valley. After Clydebank the route becomes distinctly rural, before ending in the foothills of the Highlands at Helensburgh.

Brand new in every right, enter the ScotRail BR Class 385! Built between 2015 and 2019, this fleet of “eXpress” multiple units were designed to overhaul and expand ScotRail’s electric fleet. Following an innovative modernisation of Scotland’s Central Belt, which saw electrification come to many key lines, the Class 385 entered service in 2018, and since has allowed for fully electric services on the mainline and brought new traction to existing lines.

“Beautiful route with accurately modelled Scottish trains and environments”

~ Maki

“Route looks beautiful, and the neat Class 385 seems friendly aswell. Nothing to complain about for me.”

~ r4lps

“GREAT DLC

This route is beautifully modelled with every aspect of the real route taken into account. From the working elevator to animated trams at Edinburgh, this route is definitely worth getting. All of the stations included are made to the highest quality with much effort put in to each one. This their best attempt so far at a route and I certainly think it is their best.

The class 385’s interior is beautiful with every texture immaculate. The sounds could be improved but on the whole it is a great route
